Unidentified gunmen fired at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff near Pushpa Park in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, October 18. The actor was not hit, but his driver and an autorickshaw driver were wounded, police said. A social media post by men claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility, though police have not confirmed it.
What happened
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said the shooting took place at about 7 pm, as Shroff was leaving a private event he had attended. Early accounts said the attackers came on a motorcycle and fled after firing. The area falls under the Juhu police station.
Police said Shroff’s driver was hit in the left hand. According to police and hospital accounts, the actor and his driver were taken to Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle, where doctors found only minor abrasions on Shroff and no bullet wounds. The injured autorickshaw driver was taken to Cooper Hospital.
He was not hit by any bullets and is completely safe. Mumbai Police has formed multiple teams and initiated further action.
DCP Mohit Garg
About 15 police teams are on the case, and forensic experts collected evidence from the spot on Sunday night while officers went through CCTV footage from the area. The DCP declined to say how many rounds were fired. One suspect has reportedly been detained, though police have not shared details.
Gang claim and threat to film industry
Soon after the attack, a post in the names of Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed the shooting and said Shroff had ignored earlier warnings. It threatened anyone in the Mumbai film industry who works with actor Salman Khan. An audio clip with a similar claim reached security agencies, and it also demanded that Salman Khan apologise to Lawrence Bishnoi. Police have not confirmed the claim and are examining the evidence.
Political reactions
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio, spoke to Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and told him to speed up the probe. He also called Shroff and told him the accused would be traced soon. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde condemned the attack. He said Mumbai Police had ended gang wars in the 1990s and that no gang would be spared now.
Opposition leaders raised questions about law and order. NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule called the situation in the state alarming, and Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad asked how ordinary residents could feel safe if actors and politicians were being targeted.
Why it matters
This is the latest in a series of shootings tied to the same gang’s threats against people in the film world. In April 2024, two men on a motorcycle fired outside Salman Khan’s Bandra apartment, and several accused in that case are now on trial. In February this year, shots were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu home, close to Sunday’s spot. Police will now try to identify the shooters and find out whether the gang claim is genuine.
